State Secretary for Strategic Affairs, Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Daniel Ioniţă is a career diplomat and he joined Romanian foreign service in 1996. Since January 2015 he is acting as State Secretary for Strategic Affairs within the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between October 2011 and January 2015 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Kingdom of Norway. Until September 2011, he was Director General for Strategic Affairs in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From December 2006 to September 2010 he was the head of the NATO Department, which was later transformed into the Security Policy Department. He was posted in Brussels (twice, for temporary posts in 1998 and in 2002) and Stockholm (2002-2006), in the latter location as deputy of the Ambassador. From 2000 until 2002 he was the Deputy Director of the NATO Department, being responsible mainly for coordinating the aspects concerning Romania’s preparation process for accession to NATO (MAP).
